October 9, 2026 – The Saskatchewan Progress Party, formerly the Saskatchewan Liberal Party until a name change in July 2023, has been removed from the provincial register of political parties effective today, October 9, 2026.
The removal from the registry was completed pursuant to section 227(1)(d) of The Election Act, 1996 for failure to appoint a Chief Official Agent within 30 days of the position becoming vacant. The party’s Chief Official Agent position has been vacant since July 31, 2026. At the time of deregistration, Teunis Peters (teunis.peters@saskprogress.com) was leader of the Saskatchewan Progress Party. The party’s listed telephone number was 306-994-7436.
In Saskatchewan, a political party must be registered to incur expenses, solicit and receive contributions, participate in the Province’s political contributions tax credit regime and field candidates for election to the Legislative Assembly. October 8, 2026, was the last day that the Saskatchewan Progress Party could issue tax receipts for contributions.
With the deletion of the Saskatchewan Progress Party, the province now has six registered political parties. More information can be found at www.elections.sk.ca/candidates-political-parties/political-parties/
According to The Legislative Assembly Act, 2007, provincial elections occur every four years on the last Monday in October, unless delayed by a federal election call. Saskatchewan’s 31st General Election is scheduled for October 30, 2028.
Elections Saskatchewan (ESK) is the province’s nonpartisan election management body and an independent office of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan.
