The Returning Officer (RO) manages the election in their constituency. During an election period they hire workers, set up their local returning office and find voting locations in their community. Hours are minimal until 2028.

Each election job, whether in a returning office or at a voting location, has a prescribed salary as outlined in The Election Act, 1996.
